Jan. 6 Committee Members Fear Trump’s Chances In 2024

The members of the now-defunct Jan. 6 Committee recently expressed their worry at the prospect of former President Donald Trump defeating President Joe Biden in the November 2024 election.

Several Democrats from the inoperative panel have told CBS News that they fear Trump’s chances of winning the upcoming election. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) told the outlet that he’s discussed what could happen with his spouse.

The Democrats responsible for investigating the former president’s alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol protests, indicated that they were worried about their safety and being arrested if Trump becomes president.

While speaking to CBS News, they fretted about a post that the former president made on Truth Social, which said that former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) “should go to Jail along with the rest of the Unselect Committee!”

Schiff, a major critic of Trump on the left, told CBS News, “My wife and I have had conversations about what life would look like if the worst happened… . You can’t avoid the conversations about ‘What if?’ And I have to think about my own personal safety.”

RedState pointed out that Schiff and his fellow Democrats likely don’t fear the former president jailing them despite their weaponization of the federal government and efforts to destroy evidence in the pursuit of pushing their narratives. The outlet argued that members of Congress are rarely “held accountable for anything.”

The outlet reported that the Jan. 6 committee deleted some evidence before going out of operation. The panel’s leadership decided to conceal testimony that destroyed their claims.

For example, Cheny had asserted that no evidence existed of Trump trying to deploy National Guard troops to the Capitol on Jan. 6. Several government officials have debunked the former Wyoming congresswoman’s claims.

The members of the dissolved committee weren’t the only individuals who complained about Trump’s chances of becoming president.

Former U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) officer Michael Fanone, who spread claims about his experience on Jan. 6, also expressed his concern that the former president would target him.

While speaking to CBS News, Fanone said, “He’s going to weaponize the Department of Justice … . He’s telling us exactly what he plans on doing.”
