Axelrod Suggests Biden Is Too Old To Reelect

David Axelrod suggested on Sunday that President Biden should contemplate withdrawing from the presidential race, given the results of a recent New York Times/Siena College poll showing President Joe Biden behind former President Donald Trump.

Axelrod, a former senior adviser to President Barack Obama, expressed his views on X, formerly known as Twitter, noting that “it’s very late to change horses; a lot will happen in the next year that no one can predict & Biden’s team says his resolve to run is firm. He’s defied CW before, but this will send tremors of doubt thru the party – not ‘bed-wetting,’ but legitimate concern.”

Axelrod wrote in another post on X, “Only @JoeBiden can make this decision. If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it’s in HIS best interest or the country’s?”

Axelrod emphasized his desire for the Democrats to secure a victory, as he called President Trump a “dangerous, unhinged demagogue.”

Poll results reveal Biden trailing Trump in five out of six battleground states, all of which he had previously won in 2020. Only in Wisconsin did Biden maintain a 2% lead.

The survey coincides with rising apprehensions among Democrat voters regarding President Biden’s age and policies, as reported by The Hill.

The poll’s findings indicated that 71% of registered voters, to varying degrees, believe that Biden is “just too old to be an effective president,” whereas only 39% expressed a similar view about Trump.

When questioned about whether Biden possesses the “mental sharpness to be an effective president,” 62% responded in the negative, while 35% concurred. Furthermore, 52% of respondents indicated they believe Trump possesses the mental sharpness required to be an effective president, whereas 44% expressed a differing opinion.

Axelrod labeled Biden’s age as his “biggest liability.” He said, “Among all the unpredictable, there is one thing that is sure: the age arrow only points in one direction.”

His comments follow suggestions from certain Democrats who have raised concerns about Biden’s age, contending that it might disqualify him from seeking reelection next year.
