Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has said the Biden administration would be making a mistake if it federalizes the Texas National Guard and other state units.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) sent a letter to The White House this week, warning the Biden administration that Texas will continue to defend the border because President Biden has failed to do so.

“The federal government has broken the compact between the United States and the States. The Executive Branch of the United States has a constitutional duty to enforce federal laws protecting States, including immigration laws on the books. President Biden has refused to enforce those laws and has even violated them,” the letter says.
After a Supreme Court decision saying federal border agents could cut razor wire installed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R), tensions between federal and state units have increased.
“The biggest mistake the Biden administration could make would be confronting law enforcement or our military, our National Guard at our border, at this park, when we are doing the job that the American people want,” Patrick said on Fox News.
“If they come down and create a situation, all of America already knows now they will see that the Democrats are willing to take on a state that is operating under our constitutional right to protect our people,” he continued.
After the Supreme Court decision, Abbott posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that they would continue to deploy razor wire to repel illegal immigration.
The Texas governor has called Biden’s open-border policies reckless and said the razor wire is an effective deterrent against illegal border crossings. The Biden administration claims that the wire prevents agents from accessing critical areas of the border and added that tactics employed by Abbott are inhumane on migrants.
Abbott has declared the illegal crossings as an invasion and has the support of 25 Republican governors to protect the southern border.
“We stand in solidarity with our fellow Governor, Greg Abbott, and the State of Texas in utilizing every tool and strategy, including razor wire fences, to secure the border,” the joint statement read.
“We do it in part because the Biden Administration is refusing to enforce immigration laws already on the books and is illegally allowing mass parole across America of migrants who entered our country illegally,” the statement continued.
Without the consent of Abbott, Biden has no power to seize control of the Texas National Guard as he is being urged to do and order them to stand down since we are not in a war and the Guard is not needed for service internationally.
Texas is trying to ensure that federal laws are enforced and complied with. Still, the Biden administration is hindering the execution of the laws of the United States with its refusal to enforce our immigration laws.
If Biden spent his time fighting illegal border crossings like he fights the state of Texas, we’d be in great shape but don’t hold your breath.
