President Donald Trump did not pull any punches on Wednesday as he called on Republicans to remove Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) from his leadership position in the upper chamber “immediately.” Trump described McConnell as a “pawn for the Democrats.”

Trump called for the change in the Senate in a post on Truth Social in which he also linked an article describing the connections McConnell and his wife Elaine Chao have with China. Trump also blasted McConnell for failing to prevent Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) from getting the “Inflation Reduction Act” passed.
Trump wrote that the Democrats have McConnell and “his lovely wife, Elaine ‘Coco’ Chao, over a barrel.” He said the pair “will never be prosecuted” as long as McConnell “continues to give the Radical Left the Trillions and Trillions of Dollars that they constantly DEMAND.”
Chao, a native of Taiwan and naturalized U.S. citizen, served as Transportation Secretary during the Trump administration. She resigned from her position on January 6, 2021, and is reported to be one of the administration officials now cooperating with Nancy Pelosi’s hand-picked House January 6 Committee.
Trump’s post said McConnell should have done much more to stop the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, including using the “Debt Calling Card.” He said that rather than acting as an opposition leader, McConnell allows “Democrats to get whatever they want.” He then called on the party to select a new Senate leader immediately.
Now that the bill has been signed into law, Democrats have stopped referring to the Inflation Reduction Act by the name it was sold under and describe it instead as a “climate” and “healthcare” bill. The law was passed without a single Republican vote in either the House or Senate as a budget reconciliation measure.
Although he did not manage to block the bill in the Senate, McConnell issued a statement earlier this month condemning it. He said on August 7 that the Democrat response to the “recession they caused is giant job-killing tax hikes and doubling the IRS.”
McConnell went on to say that the Democrats have made the energy crisis they created worse as well, by continuing the war on American energy independence. He said the bill serves to “fund Green New Deal giveaways” for the Democrats’ “rich friends.”
In any event, Americans are now saddled with another massive spending bill while inflation rages on and the midterm elections draw closer.
