Top Biden Aide Insists Fundraising Tweet Timing Was A Coincidence

President Joe Biden solicited donations for his 2024 reelection campaign on Thursday at almost the exact time that his chief rival, former President Donald Trump, was arrested in Georgia — and now his campaign is desperately trying to downplay the timing of the fundraising pitch as a coincidence.

Speaking with Martha Raddatz, co-anchor of ABC’s “This Week, Biden campaign co-chairman Cedric Richmond was pressed about Biden soliciting donations while Trump was being arrested in Fulton County.

“As Trump’s motorcade was pulling into the Fulton County Jail, President Biden sent out a fundraising pitch saying, ‘apropos of nothing, I think today is a great day to give to my campaign.’ That’s not particularly subtle,” Raddatz said.

“But are Trump’s legal problems going to be part of your campaign against him?” the ABC anchor asked.

“No,” Richmond claimed.

The Biden campaign aide went on to try to downplay the timing, suggesting that this was just one of many messages soliciting donations that go out throughout the day.
“Those emails go out — you know, you get five and six of them a day. So, I wouldn’t read much into that,” Richmond said.

Surprisingly, the left-leaning ABC anchor pushed back a bit before moving on to the next issue, sarcastically quipping: “Even though it was the day of the Fulton County Jail. Okay.”

Meanwhile, Biden has faced significant backlash for the timing of his fundraising pitch tweet — which was viewed 5.9 million times as of Sunday — with many pointing out that the president’s decision to solicit donations while his chief rival was being arrested shows that the Trump indictments amount to “election interference” and “political prosecution.”

“Look at the timing on this tweet: precisely the time set for Trump’s arrest last night. Trump says that this is election interference; Biden says it isn’t. This tweet is pretty good evidence Trump is right. Biden is now saying the quiet part out loud,” wrote Daily Wire host Ben Shapiro.

“Notice the language on the Biden account tweet. It is deflecting, so therefore the poster must be aware of the political timing and how it looks. That the fundraising messages comes out just before the mugshot’s release looks like campaigning on the political prosecution of a campaign rival,” wrote political commentator Kyle Becker.
