Taylor Swift’s upcoming concerts in Vienna have been canceled following the arrest of two individuals suspected of plotting terrorist attacks targeting her shows. The cancellations affect three concerts scheduled at Ernst Happel Stadium as part of Swift’s “Eras Tour.”
Concert promoter Barracuda Music announced the decision, citing safety concerns following confirmation from Austrian authorities of a credible threat. “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety,” the statement read.
The suspects, one of whom is a 19-year-old with alleged ties to ISIS, were apprehended in Ternitz and Vienna. Public Security Director Franz Ruf revealed that the suspects had been involved in “preparatory actions” for a possible attack. The 19-year-old suspect had reportedly pledged allegiance to ISIS, while the other suspect had radicalized online.
Authorities recovered toxic chemical materials from one of the suspect’s residences, which are currently undergoing analysis. Ruf noted that at least one of the suspects had specifically pinpointed Taylor Swift’s concerts as potential targets for their planned attacks.
In response to the threat, security measures at Ernst Happel Stadium have been heightened, including rigorous entry checks and increased vigilance. Despite these precautions, the decision to cancel the concerts was made to prioritize the safety of fans and staff.
Taylor Swift was scheduled to perform in Vienna on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Fans who purchased tickets are encouraged to monitor official channels for updates on refunds and potential rescheduling.
The incident highlights the persistent threat of terrorism and the importance of proactive security measures to protect public safety. As investigations continue, the focus remains on preventing further threats and ensuring the security of public events.
