Senate Passing Spending Bill So ‘Nobody Can Read It’

Representative Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said Tuesday that the omnibus spending bill was being passed without any committee process and no one could read it. He also declared that as soon as Republicans take over the House, they wouldn’t let Senate bills come up like this again without moving them through committees.

For anyone unfamiliar with what an omnibus bill is — it is an unsophisticated bill filled with various unrelated measures for various unrelated topics.

The package McCarthy referred to includes roughly $45 billion in emergency assistance to Ukraine and NATO allies, boosts in spending for disaster aid, college access, child care, mental health and food assistance, more support for the military and veterans, and additional funds for the U.S. Capitol Police. There are also several major Medicaid provisions in the bill, including one that could disenroll up to 19 million low-income Americans from Medicaid.

“We won’t allow them to do an omnibus again,” McCarthy said. Ideally, Republicans should be able to “craft one in the beginning of next year where we can save and eliminate waste, but actually save money for the taxpayer as well,” he added.

According to McCarthy, “They moved a continuing resolution until right before Christmas.”

He’s right. The bill is being pushed by two senators who are nearing their term limits in the next two weeks and are trying to pass it even though it could not be combed through. The two key players behind the bill are Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL).

McCarthy is worried that lawmakers could instruct the House of Representatives to skip out on Christmas to vote on the bill full of random measures.

But the established RINO is also confident that most Americans will see through the power move. McCarthy warned the public not to buy what the Democrats were selling — a quick, sneaky bill plagued with more inflation effects.

The California Republican closed by saying, “We won’t allow them to do an omnibus again. But we need to stop this one now, let us craft one in the beginning of next year where we can save and eliminate waste, but actually save money for the taxpayer as well.”
