Sen. Massie Refuses To Support Continuing Resolution That Funds USAID And Government Waste

Sen. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has announced he will not support a continuing resolution (CR) that maintains government funding at last year’s levels, citing concerns over waste, fraud and the recent Supreme Court ruling forcing the Trump administration to continue funding USAID.

Massie made his position clear on X, stating, “I’ll vote against a clean CR that funds everything in 2025 at 2024 levels because: @SpeakerJohnson isn’t following the provision in law that would have cut everything by 1% if the CR extended past April. We should not fund the waste, fraud and abuse that DOGE has found.”

His comments refer to findings by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which uncovered extensive mismanagement of taxpayer dollars. According to the report, USAID has funneled funds into leftist NGOs and global propaganda efforts, prompting the Trump administration to eliminate its funding. However, the Deep State fought back, leading to a Supreme Court ruling that blocked Trump’s decision and forced the administration to continue funding the agency.

Massie also criticized House leadership for failing to separate government funding into individual spending bills, arguing that a massive CR preserves bloated spending and prevents lawmakers from prioritizing Trump’s agenda. “These are supposed to be 12 separate bills,” he stated, pointing out that lawmakers had been promised an opportunity to direct funding toward conservative priorities rather than maintaining the previous administration’s spending levels.

His opposition to the CR puts him at odds with Republican leadership, who are working to push the measure through to avoid a government shutdown. With tensions rising, conservative lawmakers are weighing whether to join Massie in demanding changes to the spending bill to cut off funding for USAID and other controversial programs.
