‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Winner Arrested For Threatening An Officer

A former “RuPaul’s Drag Race” winner was recently arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot a police officer in Starke, Florida.

James William Ross IV, who used to go by the name Tyra Sanchez, was reportedly involved in a car accident on May 17, 2023, approximately 45 miles southwest of Jacksonville in Starke. The accident appears to have physically confused Ross.

When police arrived, Ross allegedly leaped out of his vehicle and scolded the officers.

Officers’ efforts to calm down the drag queen were useless. They tried to handcuff Ross, but he allegedly resisted and threatened to shoot an officer.

Police indicated that Ross attempted to reach into his car, but an officer intervened, placing him in a “bear hug.” The intervention was reportedly unsuccessful, prompting officers to deploy a Taser, but that was ineffective.

Although Ross allegedly attempted to escape on foot, he was soon captured and charged by the Starke Police Department with two misdemeanors, one of which was resisting an officer without violence. Ross was released from jail on May 19, 2023.

The New York Daily News reported that since being named “America’s Next Drag Superstar” in 2010 and receiving a $25,000 prize, Ross’s life has been quite “bumpy.”

Ross was reportedly banned from attending DragCon after posting threats online. In 2016, he told a fan, “Go kill yourself b—-,” and suggested that suicide survivors were cowards who “give up.”

In 2020, Ross retired his “alter ego” Tyra but returned in 2022 with an Only Fans account bearing the name “King Tyra.”

Ross was arrested in 2020 for allegedly vandalizing an Atlanta apartment complex where he was considered a squatter, spray painting “Don’t move her ever” across a wall. He was identified as the suspect by police officers and charged with criminal damage to the property.

TMZ reported that Ross was living in the building he allegedly vandalized and had reportedly not paid his rent in months.

In March 2022, Ross announced his retirement as a transvestite and asked to be unassociated from “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” He accused the show and its fans of racism.
