Rep. Spartz Challenges Speaker Johnson To Deliver For Conservatives

Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN) has called for House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to publicly commit to advancing President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda, warning against the influence of establishment politics. Spartz’s remarks come after Trump endorsed Johnson for reelection as Speaker.

Spartz expressed skepticism, citing Trump’s past endorsement of former Speaker Paul Ryan, which she argued failed to deliver meaningful conservative reforms. “We need assurances that Speaker Johnson won’t sell us out to the swamp,” Spartz said, pointing to recent dissatisfaction with Johnson’s leadership.

Johnson has faced criticism for his role in negotiating a spending deal that avoided a government shutdown but relied on Democratic support. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has announced his opposition to Johnson’s speakership, stating that a “weak legislative branch” cannot meet the expectations of conservative voters.

Trump praised Johnson as a “hardworking, religious man” who will advance the Republican agenda, urging party unity. However, Spartz demanded that Johnson provide a concrete plan for implementing Trump’s policies, including spending reforms and structural changes in Congress.

Spartz warned of the consequences of inaction, emphasizing the importance of fiscal accountability and governance reforms. She urged Johnson to prioritize transparency and bold leadership to address the nation’s challenges.
