Rep. Cory Mills Proposes July 4 Nomination For Trump Amid Sentencing Conflict

In the wake of former President Donald Trump’s conviction on 34 charges in the New York hush money trial, Republican Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) has called for the Republican National Convention (RNC) to be moved to July 4th, allowing Trump to be nominated on Independence Day. This suggestion comes as Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump’s sentencing for July 11th, just days before the RNC is set to take place in Milwaukee from July 15th to 18th.

Speaking to Fox News, Mills argued that nominating Trump on July 4th would serve as a “symbolic measure” and send a clear message about the state of America. “If they’re going to try to do a sentencing on [July] 11th, which I know will hold him up, I say we bring President Trump, we move it and we elect him as our nominee on July 4th, Independence Day, and we start moving forward,” Mills stated.

The Florida congressman believes that the Democratic Party’s pursuit of Trump stems from fear and the knowledge that he will expose corruption within the deep state. Mills asserted, “He knows that the deep police state, just like when they tried to hire 87,000 armed IRS agents, they’re trying to increase their powers and try to violate our constitutional rights and liberties. He knows that — the rest of the left and the rest of the deep state knows he’s going to clean house.”

Mills’ support for Trump remains steadfast, as he considers the political persecution against the 45th president to be a “victimless sham indictment as political theater and interference.” The congressman’s proposal to nominate Trump on Independence Day has garnered attention as a way to circumvent the scheduling conflict and make a bold statement.

The suggestion comes amidst a surge of support for Trump following his conviction. WinRed, the online payment service that processes Republican campaign contributions, crashed on Thursday due to an influx of donations to the former president’s campaign. Trump’s campaign team stated, “The American people see through Crooked Joe Biden’s rigged show trial. So many Americans were moved to donate to President Trump’s campaign that the WinRed pages went down. We are working on getting the website back online as quickly as possible. Stay strong.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) also commented on the outpouring of support, tweeting, “WinRed just CRASHED because so many people are donating to Trump right now. The Democrats have NO IDEA what they’ve just started.”
