Rand Paul is Vowing to Take on the Senate’s Gun Control Bill

A brand new gun control bill in the Senate has left a lot of Americans uneasy and unhappy.

This bill facilitates new red flag laws across states, cracks down on gun buyers between the ages of 18 and 21, and pushes through new penalties on straw purchases.

As countless Second Amendment supporters have already noted, gun control has the worst impacts on law-abiding citizens, while failing to crack down on criminals.

Republicans, such as Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), who signed onto this gun control package, are being called out by conservatives as turncoats.

However, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is vowing to push for some serious changes to the gun control legislation that Democrats and select Republicans want to get passed.

Changes Coming Soon?
This past Wednesday, the Kentucky senator pointed out the bill that lawmakers have thrown their weight behind poses serious constitutional issues. As such, Paul warned that he’s going to put in place amendments to the legislation that will iron out some of its worst problems.

The congressman, in vowing to make these amendments, expressed his hope that others in the Senate will join him. Paul also reiterated that he, like most Americans, wants schools to be safe; however, this bill doesn’t contain measures that facilitate school safety.

At this time, the Senate gun control bill hasn’t yet hit the congressional floor. However, when it does, this is when Paul will be able to follow through on the actions he’s pledged.

Additional statements from the congressman sound the alarm against red flag laws, a key element in the legislation. Paul explained he’s not going to back any bill that enables gun confiscation without the proper due process procedures set in place.

A Larger Opportunity for Republicans
GOP lawmakers who are serious about protecting the Second Amendment will have the opportunity to prove it once Paul brings forth his amendments to the bill.

These amendments will also provide a chance for Senate Republicans to bridge the gap they’ve created with conservative voters who now feel betrayed.

Democrats like Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) have openly said this gun control bill is a lynchpin to even more restrictions in the future. Hopefully, Paul’s amendments will help prevent lawful Americans from losing their Second Amendment rights to a tyrannical government.
