Rand Paul Calls For Fort Knox Audit, Wants Musk’s DOGE To Investigate Gold Reserves

Sen. Rand Paul is pushing for a full review of the gold reserves stored at Fort Knox, inviting Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to conduct an audit. The Kentucky senator’s call follows decades of speculation that the US gold supply may not be as secure as the government claims.

Musk’s involvement in the discussion began after a viral X post suggested he investigate the 4,580 tons of gold reportedly stored in the vaults. Musk responded by questioning why routine audits were not conducted. Paul then urged DOGE to take on the investigation, signaling his support for a long-overdue review.

Fort Knox, one of the most heavily guarded sites in the country, has been largely off-limits to public scrutiny. The last time outsiders were given access to the vaults was in 1974, when a select group of journalists and lawmakers toured the facility. More recently, in 2017, then-Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin was granted entry, though few details emerged from his visit.

The secrecy surrounding Fort Knox has fueled conspiracy theories for decades. Former Rep. Ron Paul attempted to push for an audit in 2010 but was met with resistance. Now, his son is reviving the effort with Musk’s DOGE, which has already uncovered significant waste and mismanagement within multiple government agencies.

If DOGE is granted access, it could provide long-awaited answers about the nation’s gold reserves. The US Mint Police are tasked with guarding the site, but as government transparency remains a key concern for taxpayers, pressure for an inspection continues to build.

Whether the Trump administration will authorize a full audit remains uncertain, but with Musk and Paul both pushing for action, momentum is growing.
