Gov. Phil Murphy is calling for federal intervention as mysterious drones continue to be spotted over New Jersey. The sightings, concentrated along the Raritan River, have left state and federal agencies puzzled.
Speaking on the issue, Murphy said authorities, including the FBI and Homeland Security, have not identified any public safety concerns but admitted that answers are scarce. “We don’t see any concern to public safety,” he said. “Having said that, it’s really frustrating that we don’t have more answers.”
In one evening, 49 reports of drone activity were recorded, though officials believe some accounts may overlap. The sightings, which include clusters of drones and a possible fixed-wing aircraft, have persisted for several weeks.
The FBI has asked the public to report any information related to the sightings. Investigators are focusing on the Raritan River region, which is home to pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries that could be of interest for surveillance or espionage.
Drones’ capabilities in modern technology have raised concerns. Their small size and maneuverability make them difficult to track, and their potential for reconnaissance or targeted actions adds to the mystery.
Murphy’s appeal for federal assistance underscores the complexity of the situation. The ongoing investigation aims to determine the drones’ origin and purpose, addressing the growing unease among residents.
