Gov. Tate Reeves signed (www.americanthinker.com) a law this week that eliminates Mississippi’s income tax, making good on years of promises to turn the state into a top destination for job creators and working families. The move puts Mississippi into a small club of states that choose freedom over government control.
The new law completely removes the individual income tax, a change Reeves described as both practical and symbolic. “Mississippi will no longer tax the work, the earnings or the ambition of its people,” he said, calling the move a bold bet on the state’s potential.
We did it, Mississippi! We just eliminated the income tax!
Today is a day that will be remembered — not just for the headlines, not just for the politics, but for the profound, generational change it represents.

Reeves has fought for this policy across multiple offices and campaigns. He said this achievement was the result of long-term commitment and steady conservative leadership. From the start, the idea was simple: keep more money in the hands of the people who earn it.
The governor noted that only a few states have taken this step, and Mississippi now joins them by planting its flag firmly in support of economic liberty. He said the new law will draw in families and businesses that want to grow in a low-tax environment.
Reeves praised the legislative team that helped push the bill through. He specifically thanked Speaker Jason White for leading the charge, along with Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann and Ways and Means Chairman Trey Lamar.
In addition to growing the economy, Reeves said the law would strengthen communities. With more take-home pay, he expects working families to invest more in local businesses, schools and neighborhoods.
The governor described the moment as a break from the past — a moment where Mississippi chooses to lead, not follow.
