Kayleigh McEnany always brings the receipts. With her perfectly organized binder full of every quote and fact she needs in a given day, the Press Secretary always gets the better of a media that things they are far more clever than they are. You’d think they’d learn, but I guess not.
Enter Jim Acosta, who decided to take President Trump out of context in an attempt to paint him as a murderer. It didn’t go well for him.
CNN’s Acosta is a special kind of hack. I mean, yeah, we’ve got figures like Yamiche Alcindor and Katie Collins out there hogging the spotlight at these pressers now, but Acosta is still the godfather of rampant liberal bias during the Trump era. Maybe they should get a portrait commissioned or something?
You’ll note that the quote he uses is grossly out of context. He wanted to make it seem like Trump was saying the virus didn’t affect anyone. What Trump was actually saying is that the virus has virtually no effect on children. That is scientifically true, as the mortality rate is so low as to be almost incalculable. Their ability to spread the disease is also minimized compared to other groups. This is why we’ve seen schools successfully opened across the globe in many different countries, including the United States.
McEnany wasn’t going to let him get away with that. She had the quote read and the facts to combat exactly what Acosta was trying to do. At that point, he realized he was caught with his pants down and tried to spin a quote to Bob Woodward as proof Trump was lying about the virus. In reality, when Trump told Woodward the virus doesn’t only affect the old, he was making a statement prior to the knowledge we have today (i.e. we simply know how little children are affected now), and he was not speaking in terms of severity. Of course a child can get the virus. The real question has always been the level of danger such a child would be in.
Acosta tries to come back but McEnany shuts him down again by listing off the many states that haven’t had a single pediatric death from COVID, with the point being how exceptionally rare such is.
Look, we know the real game here. Acosta wants to say Trump lied and that such amounts to murdering citizens. The media are also desperate to change the narrative back to the coronavirus because they know that any other topic, whether it be the economy or Supreme Court, works against them. Trump is lucky to have McEnany, who is able to expertly handle these media flacks without so much as breaking a sweat.
