Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is receiving support from team owner Clark Hunt for his new political action committee (PAC), UPRIGHT. The PAC, launched during the team’s bye week, aims to encourage conservative voters to support candidates who promote traditional Christian values.
Hunt has expressed no concerns about Butker’s political involvement, stating that he encourages all players to use their platform to make a difference, regardless of their political beliefs. “We have players on both sides of the political spectrum,” Hunt said. He emphasized that the Chiefs support players who use their influence for causes they believe in.
Butker’s PAC promotes what it calls the fight to “reclaim traditional values” in the United States. Alongside his support for Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), Butker is urging Christians to mobilize and defend these values in the face of growing opposition from various institutions.
In May, Butker made headlines for a speech at Benedictine College, where he emphasized the importance of women embracing motherhood over career aspirations. His remarks led to backlash, with some labeling him a misogynist. The NFL distanced itself from Butker’s views, affirming its commitment to inclusion, but the kicker has remained unapologetic.
The Hunt family, long known for its conservative stance, has also supported a Missouri initiative to maintain the state’s near-total ban on abortion. While Butker recently criticized President Donald Trump for his stance on reproductive rights, he still endorsed him as the “most pro-life president” in an interview with Fox News.
