Judge Orders Immediate Closure Of Migrant Gang Stronghold In Aurora

A Colorado judge has issued an emergency order to shut down The Edge at Lowry apartment complex in Aurora, citing dangerous criminal activity fueled by the violent Tren de Aragua gang. The ruling follows mounting concerns over public safety as gang violence and crime surged throughout the property.

Judge Shawn Day ruled in favor of Aurora city officials, who petitioned to close the complex after months of escalating violence. The property’s owner, Five Dallas Partners, LLC, failed to address ongoing security concerns, forcing the city to take action. Although the order was granted, officials say the full closure could take weeks to complete.

Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain described the complex as a hotspot for violent crime. He revealed that in 2024, police responded to 382 calls at the property, many linked to the notorious Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang. Chamberlain admitted that despite significant police efforts, the criminal activity remained unchecked due to the gang’s influence.

The violence reached a boiling point in December when nine suspected Tren de Aragua members carried out a brutal home invasion, kidnapping and robbing residents at the complex. The victims were bound, beaten and stabbed, resulting in severe injuries.

Authorities say this attack was part of a larger pattern of gang-driven violence in the area.
Out of 19 suspects initially detained, three were released after questioning, while 16 remain in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Seven of those suspects are still under investigation and could face additional charges.

Aurora officials are working with nonprofit groups and property management experts to help lawful tenants relocate safely. Jessica Prosser, Aurora’s Director of Housing and Community Services, assured that families affected by the closure will receive support. In the meantime, police will maintain a heightened presence at the complex to protect residents until the shutdown is complete.
