During a Thursday broadcast of the left-wing talk show “The View,” co-host Joy Behar made a shocking comment about the February 3 Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, that caused a toxic chemical spill leading to pollution of the environment and health problems — claiming that the town’s residents had essentially gotten what they deserved because they voted for former President Donald Trump.
By voting for Trump, who Behar claimed “reduces all safety,” the residents of East Palestine had chosen their fate, according to the leftist co-host.
“I don’t know why they would ever vote for him,” Behar said. “For somebody, who, by the way, he placed someone with deep ties to the chemical industry in charge of the EPA’s Chemical Safety Office.”
She then looked directly at the camera, pointed, and exclaimed: “That’s who you voted for in that district. Donald Trump, who reduces all safety. He did.”
Human Events senior editor Jack Posobiec shared a clip of Behar’s comments on Twitter.
“BREAKING: Joy Behar says East Palestine got what they deserved because they voted for Trump ‘That’s who you voted for!’” he wrote.

Behar also blasted Republicans for their support for the free market and their disagreement with excessive government regulations.
“It seems to me that the Republicans are obsessed with this notion of the free market and they don’t like a lot of regulations,” she said, adding: “We have to pay for regulation and safety standards.”
Behar’s fellow co-host, Alyssa Farah Griffin — who was chosen as the token Republican for the panel but often sympathizes with the left — responded to her comments.
“Norfolk Southern gives as much to Democrats as Republicans. It’s a very powerful lobby,” Griffin said, going on to downplay the Biden administration’s failure to address the disaster by describing the delay in sending Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to the area as an “unforced error.”
The RINO co-host also described East Palestine as “Trump country,” due to the fact that the town had voted for him by a 40% margin.
Another leftist co-host of “The View,” Sunny Hostin, later claimed that the train derailment was “Donald Trump’s fault.”
While the Biden administration avoided sending officials such as Buttigieg to the disaster site for several weeks, Trump visited East Palestine on Wednesday and passed out water. He also reportedly bought McDonalds for all of the firefighters and first responders in the area.

The day after Trump’s visit, Buttigieg finally arrived in East Palestine — where independent reporter Savanah Hernandez attempted to ask him about the long delay in showing up. Refusing to answer her questions, Buttigieg’s press secretary instead told Hernandez that she would not respond on camera and claimed that the reporter was being “aggressive” in her questions.

Meanwhile, East Palestine residents are experiencing serious effects from the train derailment. Soon after the incident occurred, residents were ordered to evacuate their homes. On February 6, authorities began burning off the toxic chemicals in an attempt to minimize the risk of a vinyl chloride explosion. Residents were finally allowed back in their homes on February 9, but upon returning they discovered that the air still reeked of chemicals. They soon began experiencing symptoms, including eye irritation and headaches.
The residents also found dead fish in the rivers and creeks in the area, leading to concerns over the pollution of the water.
Of course, according to the panelists on “The View,” these innocent Americans had gotten what they deserved for voting for Trump.
