House Republicans And Six Democrats Condemn Harris On Border Crisis

In a significant bipartisan move, six Democrats joined every House Republican to pass a resolution condemning Vice President Kamala Harris for her handling of the border crisis.

The resolution, introduced by Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), passed with a vote of 220 to 196. This decision highlights growing frustration with Harris’s performance as the Biden administration’s Border Czar, a role she assumed in March 2021.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) emphasized the resolution’s importance, stating, “Harris has failed in her leadership, leading to record-high illegal crossings and overwhelmed communities.” He argued that Harris’s inaction has resulted in a severe crisis at the border.

The six Democrats who supported the resolution were Reps. Mary Peltola (D-AK), Jared Golden (D-ME), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA), Yadira Caraveo (D-CO), Don Davis (D-NC), and Henry Cuellar (D-TX). Their support indicates a bipartisan recognition of the urgent need to address the border situation effectively.

Stefanik criticized Harris for taking 93 days to visit the southern border after being appointed and pointed out that neither Harris nor President Biden has had a conversation with current U.S. Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens or his predecessor, Raul Ortiz. This lack of engagement, Stefanik argued, demonstrates a disregard for the severity of the border crisis.

The resolution asserts that the American people deserve leaders who understand the gravity of the border crisis and are committed to implementing policies to address it. The document states, “The continuation of the Biden, Harris border policies would be disastrous for both the United States and the American people.”

This bipartisan criticism underscores the growing discontent with the current administration’s handling of border security. The vote reflects a significant step toward addressing the concerns of communities affected by the border crisis and calls for more effective leadership and policies to secure the U.S. border.
