FBI Raid Prompts Rhode Island Judge’s Resignation Amid Investigation

Joseph Molina Flynn, a municipal judge and immigration attorney in Rhode Island, stepped down from his position after federal agents raided his Providence law office. The search, conducted by FBI and Homeland Security officials, took place Thursday with authorities seizing files and electronic devices from the premises.

Law enforcement officers were seen entering the building with a warrant in hand, while black SUVs lined the street outside. Agents later exited carrying multiple boxes filled with potential evidence. The nature of the investigation has not been revealed, but officials confirmed the probe predates President Donald Trump’s return to the White House.

Central Falls Mayor Maria Rivera expressed concern over the situation, citing transparency and accountability as key priorities. She announced that Molina Flynn had resigned and that Associate Judge Robert McConnell would take over responsibilities at the municipal court.

Born in Colombia, Molina Flynn arrived in the US as a child and lived without legal status for 15 years before becoming a citizen. His law firm, established in 2015, has represented clients in immigration and criminal cases across Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

A spokesperson for the Rhode Island judiciary confirmed that the state’s disciplinary office is monitoring the situation but noted that no charges have been filed against Molina Flynn at this time. Federal prosecutors have declined to provide further information on the investigation.

Molina Flynn, who also lectures at Roger Williams University School of Law, made history as the first openly gay and formerly undocumented individual appointed to a judicial position in Rhode Island.
