Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) discovered records showing Nina Jankowicz, the former executive director of the DHS Disinformation Governance Board, was planning to meet with Facebook security chief Nathaniel Gleicher when the company censored the New York Post on Hunter Biden’s laptop. DHS documents obtained by Hawley show email correspondence among employees, including Jankowicz, regarding the Disinformation Governance Board. It appears that Jankowicz and officials from other groups within the DHS planned to meet with Gleicher in April, despite criticism that Twitter had engaged in censorship.
In March, Sandra Luff, a registered lobbyist for Facebook, emailed DHS Under Secretary for Strategy, Policy, and Plans Robert Silvers about setting up a meeting. Gleicher’s biography is included at the end of the email. However, the unredacted parts of the email do not explicitly name who from Facebook would be involved in such a meeting. On the afternoon of April 7, three officials met with Facebook’s head and other DHS staff. It appears that the meeting occurred based on the emails, but it is unclear whether it actually took place.

Gleicher has served as Facebook’s head of security policy since Jan. 2018. As head of security, he served when the company limited the distribution of Hunter Biden’s “laptop from hell” story in Oct. 2020. Over the summer, Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged to the Joe Rogan Experience podcast that the FBI alerted Facebook about Russian propaganda.
“The FBI, I think basically came to us — some folks on our team — and was like, ‘Hey, um, just so you know, like, you should be on high alert,” said Zuckerberg. “There was the — we thought that there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election. We have it on notice that basically there’s about to be some kind of dump of — that’s similar to that. So just be vigilant.’”
Ex-intelligence officers wrote an open letter on October 19, 2020, claiming the laptop story was a Russian information operation. However, the journalist who broke the story at the New York Post confirmed the laptop contents already. In the New York Post report on Hunter Biden’s “laptop from hell,” Joe Biden was also revealed to be intimately involved in Hunter’s businesses, even appearing to have a 10% stake in a Chinese Communist Party company Hunter formed with officials at its highest levels.
