Cooper Skeptical Of Polls Showing Kamala Harris Leading, Cites Trump’s 2016 Victory

Anderson Cooper, longtime CNN anchor, recently questioned the reliability of polls that show Vice President Kamala Harris leading in the 2024 presidential race. Appearing on “Late Night with Stephen Colbert,” Cooper suggested that the polling numbers might not be accurate, drawing on the history of President Donald Trump’s underestimated support in past elections.

“I don’t think I buy them,” Cooper said of the polls. While Harris has enjoyed a recent surge in polling since becoming the Democratic nominee, Cooper remains unconvinced that the numbers truly reflect the race. He pointed to the polling errors of 2016 and 2020, when Trump’s support was largely overlooked by top pollsters.

Harris has seen her favorability ratings improve significantly since July, moving from a -14 rating to +1. Trump, however, remains at a -9 favorability rating. Despite these figures, political analyst Nate Silver urged caution, reminding voters that polling has underestimated Trump in two previous elections.

Silver also noted that with three months remaining before the election, there is plenty of time for surprises that could alter the race. Cooper’s skepticism reflects the uncertainty that continues to surround the 2024 election, particularly given Trump’s history of outperforming expectations.

As the race continues, the question remains whether Harris’ lead in the polls will hold up, or if Trump’s base will once again defy predictions and lead him to another surprise victory.
