Colorado Family Faces Nightmare As Squatters Allegedly Take Over Elderly Man’s Home

A 76-year-old man in Colorado Springs is living in fear after squatters allegedly took over his home. William Towns, who suffers from dementia, reportedly invited a homeless woman into his home to help with chores, but what began as a kind gesture turned into a nightmare. The woman, along with her boyfriend, son, and their belongings, have moved in, leaving Towns feeling trapped and unsafe.

Towns’ daughters claim the squatters have started a mushroom-growing operation in the living room and engage in underage drug use. “They act as if the house is their own, rummaging through our dad’s belongings and using everything,” the family wrote on their GoFundMe page, set up to help cover legal fees.

Despite multiple calls to the Colorado Springs Police Department, authorities say that because the squatters were invited into the home, it’s not considered trespassing. The family is now forced to go through the formal eviction process, which could take months. “We feel helpless,” the daughters said, “and our dad is afraid to live in his own home.”

The legal process is expensive and time-consuming, with the family needing thousands of dollars to cover attorney fees. The squatters, meanwhile, continue to occupy the house, causing emotional and financial strain on the family.

Towns’ daughters are hoping the legal process will soon restore their father’s peace of mind, but for now, they remain stuck in a situation that they say has left them feeling “abandoned by the system.”
