Carlson Calls Out Canada’s Gun Ban While Legalizing Fentanyl

Fox News host Tucker Carlson tore into Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a fiery rant on Wednesday for his new push to ban handguns while simultaneously legalizing fentanyl.

The prime minister introduced legislation on Monday that would prohibit the sales, purchases, transfers, and imports of handguns, along with imposing a buy-back of so-called ‘military-style’ semi-automatic weapons. Speaking to Parliament, Trudeau said that there “is no reason anyone in Canada should need guns in their everyday lives.”

Calling out Trudeau for his hypocrisy, Carlson noted that the prime minister is constantly surrounded by firearms because they are the “key to his power,” and went on to discuss the statistics surrounding gun violence in the country compared to drug-related deaths.

“So how is Justin Trudeau responding to this? Well, days ago he announced that he is legalizing fentanyl, along with cocaine and methamphetamine in Canada’s third largest province, British Columbia. This is a province where over 165,000 people died last month from drug overdoses. By comparison, in 2020, in the entire nation of Canada, 23 people died per month in acts involving a firearm. So why, if you were concerned about public health, would you ban firearms but legalize fentanyl?” the Fox News host said.

“Fentanyl is what people are dying from, not guns. How does that make sense? Well, it only makes sense if your goal is to keep the population weak and vulnerable, even if it kills them,” Carlson added.

The Canadian federal government has made it temporarily legal for citizens 18 years or older to carry a total of 2.5 grams of fentanyl, heroin and cocaine in British Columbia, though they are still prohibited from producing, trafficking or importing the drugs, according to the Washington Post.

In Canada, drug overdoses are the leading cause of death for people ages 19 to 39.

Carlson went on to note that Trudeau’s authoritarian “show of force” will be impossible to stop because the country has already largely succeeded in disarming its people.

“You can have all the fentanyl you want, but you can’t defend yourself. It’s not just gun confiscation, it’s magazine confiscation,” Carlson said, referring to the prime minister’s plan to ban “high-capacity” magazines.

The Fox News host also noted that left-wing politicians in the U.S. are eagerly watching Canada’s actions, stating: “And as always, our authorities, mostly in the Democratic Party, are taking very close notes when they watch Justin Trudeau’s speech.”

Of course, Carlson isn’t wrong. The left has long talked about banning guns in the U.S., and they have succeeded in slowly attacking the Second Amendment with minor pieces of gun control legislation over the years. Now, in the wake of the Uvalde shooting, they are becoming even more rapid in their crusade against Americans’ right to self-defense.

President Joe Biden is just one example of a politician who, though he is unbelievably uneducated about firearms, loves to talk about banning them. In remarks on Monday, Biden claimed that 9mm ammunition is “high-caliber” and “blows the lung out of the body.” The president has long called for gun control legislation to be passed in the U.S., and he has been exploiting this tragedy to push that agenda.

Carlson didn’t stop at calling Democrats out for wanting to ban guns while legalizing drugs, instead moving on to an even worse example of hypocrisy: U.S. leaders decriminalizing serious crimes while simultaneously trying to disarm citizens. The Fox News host cited a shocking report from the Seattle Times as evidence of this, revealing that detectives will no longer be assigned to investigate new adult sexual assault cases this year.

“If any of the people in charge wanted us to be a safer country, they wouldn’t have caused the current crime wave in the first place,” Carlson said. “They wouldn’t have defunded police, they wouldn’t be encouraging open air drug markets in our cities. They wouldn’t be sending crack pipes to addicts. But they’re not worried about public health at all, what they’re worried about is public resistance to their policies. Disarming the population ends that resistance. They’re very concerned because they know they rule illegitimately so the population will rise up.”
