According to The Blaze, phone service carriers are getting instructions from the Biden administration to monitor and control users’ private text messages to contain Covid-19 vaccination information, according to The Blaze, citing reporting by Politico on July 12.
The White House began facing negative feedback immediately after Biden announced that the federal government would start knocking on Americans’ doors to promote vaccine awareness. Republicans and citizens alike called the plan overreaching and invasive of ordinary citizens’ privacy.
The administration countered by having Dr. Anthony Fauci state, “the big misinterpretation that Fox News or whomever else is saying is that they are essentially envisioning a bunch of federal workers knocking on your door, telling you you’ve got to do something that you don’t want to do.”
The Politico report states: “Biden allied groups including the Democratic National Committee [DNC] are planning to engage fact-checkers more aggressively and work with SMS carriers (text carriers) to dispel misinformation about vaccines that is sent over social media and text message.”
“Misinformation” as used in the administration’s statement is not necessarily factually untrue information. It seems to imply information that is simply inconvenient to the administration. Information or questions about vaccine effectiveness and possible side effects of the vaccine is likely to be monitored and controlled.
Anyone who looks up information on these questions and then attempts to text it to anyone else could find their communications read and interrupted.
Conservative Republicans have roundly criticized news of the administration’s plan to seek text messaging censorship. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) responded to a Tweet discussing the project with, “please tell me this is a typo.” Former Trump ambassador Richard Grenell similarly replied to the tweet with: “Yikes and Dear God.”
Tucker Carlson commented on the impending censorship on his program on July 12, saying, “Today, we learned the Biden administration considers censorship applicable to private speech as well. What you say in private, when you’re alone with your phone, you won’t be able to say or read what you want because the DNC plans to control and apparently they have the ability to control the flow of information that you receive on your phone. Nothing that questions official regime policy will reach you,” he stated.
“If the government can ban discussion of the drug they are making you take, what can’t they do? And by the way, it is worth wondering why are they doing this now? Why are they expanding censorship of conversation about the pandemic as the pandemic recedes?” Carlson asked.
