Biden Sends Millions To Ukraine While North Carolina Families Are Left In The Cold

Thousands of North Carolina families displaced by Hurricane Helene are being forced out of FEMA-funded hotels today, facing freezing temperatures and a winter storm. As 3,500 families scramble for shelter, the Biden administration has approved another $500 million in military aid to Ukraine. This stark difference between funding foreign wars and helping Americans at home raises serious concerns about the administration’s priorities.

FEMA’s Transitional Sheltering Assistance program, designed to provide temporary housing, officially ends today. The agency claims that support is being cut because some homes were deemed “habitable,” families declined inspections or officials could not reach them. However, many families say FEMA never followed through with inspections or provided proper communication, leaving them stranded without options.

Meanwhile, North Carolina braces for severe winter weather. Forecasts predict several inches of snow and dangerously low temperatures across the region. Emergency shelters are struggling to meet the rising demand as families face brutal conditions without adequate shelter. FEMA has only delivered 90 of the promised temporary housing units, leaving thousands without a place to stay.

North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis (R) criticized FEMA’s handling of the crisis, calling it unacceptable. He urged the agency to remove bureaucratic obstacles and immediately provide assistance to families still suffering from Hurricane Helene’s destruction. Tillis warned that FEMA’s inaction is putting families in even greater danger as winter weather worsens.

The Biden administration’s decision to continue sending billions overseas while American families are left to freeze is drawing sharp criticism. Since 2022, the US has provided more than $175 billion in aid to Ukraine. Yet, little effort has been made to ensure American citizens recovering from natural disasters receive the help they need.

With shelters overwhelmed and temperatures dropping, families across North Carolina are left to face the bitter cold alone. Many now have nowhere to turn as the government prioritizes foreign conflicts over its own people.
