Ballots Secure After Transport Incident In Miami-Dade, Worker Terminated

Following an unusual incident in Miami-Dade County, an election worker has been fired after a ballot box and bag were found on the roadside late Monday night. Officials reported that the items fell due to an unlocked truck door as ballots were being transported from the South Dade Regional Library after early voting hours.

Christina White, the Supervisor of Elections, explained that the worker failed to secure the truck’s rear door, causing the materials to fall. White described the situation as an “unfortunate human error” but reiterated that the department enforces strict standards with “zero tolerance” for such mistakes.

Fortunately, local residents spotted the items and turned them over to police, preventing any potential security breach. White praised these “upstanding citizens” and confirmed that both the box and bag were sealed, with no evidence of tampering or damage.
The ballots in the box had been fully processed, ensuring no impact on vote counts. The bag contained one provisional ballot, which will be reviewed per election procedures to verify eligibility.

White assured the public that Miami-Dade election staff have reviewed procedures to prevent future incidents, emphasizing the department’s commitment to maintaining voter confidence.
