Far-left radical Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) apparently believes the only people who are pro-life are “fundamentalist Christians,” condemning them in a video as “theocratic” and “authoritarian.”
While her hourlong Instagram video posted on Thursday discussed a variety of issues, Ocasio-Cortez jumped right to the abortion issue at the beginning of the video, and spent almost half of her speech on the subject.
About 19 minutes into her remarks, the New York congresswoman completely dismissed individuals who hold pro-life views, using air quotes to minimize those who say things like “you’re harming a life” and “I believe this is life.”
“Well, some religions don’t. So how ’bout that? … Jewish brothers and sisters… are able to have an abortion according to their faith. You know, there are so many faiths that do not have the same definition of life as fundamentalist Christians,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “And so what about their rights? What about their right[s] to exercise their faith? It’s ridiculous. And it is theocratic, it’s authoritarian — it is wrong.”
Of course, that is not even a real argument. Even if one’s faith doesn’t prohibit abortion, that doesn’t mean that banning abortion violates their “right to exercise their faith.” A religion not banning abortion doesn’t mean that it actively promotes it as a religious tenet essential to their faith.
The congresswoman also appeared to be ignorant of the fact that Christians who don’t consider themselves “fundamentalist” also oppose abortion, as do many Jewish people, Muslims, and even atheists. Opposition to abortion for many people goes far beyond the simple “God forbids it” argument, and has moved towards the argument of equal rights for humans in the womb.

Twitter immediately lit up with criticism for Ocasio-Cortez’s attacks on pro-lifers.
“Tell me you don’t understand science without saying you don’t understand science,” LifeNews tweeted.
“I’ll be sure to pass this along to all non-religious pro-life people. It is stunning that people are now so crass about ending the life of a baby with a living heartbeat and actual feeling. Life….what a beautiful choice for Christians and everybody else,” one user said.
“Someday, she’ll revisit this conversation with the One who created that life,” another commenter predicted.
“Notice how they don’t have an argument in favor of abortion that doesn’t involve invoking something about religion? I’m not religious, think abortion is wrong, accept the science that it is a human life. They can’t argue with me because they have to invoke religion” another user wrote.
“I’ve stated before how people who need instructions on shampoo bottles or warnings on coffee cups are AOC’s base. She proves me right every day. Taking religion out of it, from a purely scientific and biological standpoint, every abortion ends a life. Period,” another user said.
